What We Fund

Earth Based Mindfulness and Meditation

There are many challenges to be faced by those of us living through this time in history. Starting in 2024, we are focused exclusively on addressing the challenges associated with the ecological crisis, climate change, and environmental justice. We are committed to building an anti-racist ecodharma community. We believe that mainstream mindfulness, Buddhist meditation practices, and Indigenous earth-based practices can play a positive role in helping individuals cope with the challenges and work toward solutions that benefit all beings.

Earth Based Mindfulness and Meditation: An Exploration of Eco Dharma Practices reflects a synthesis of what the 2022-2023 Eco-Advisory group shared with the BESS Family Foundation over the course of the year together. Click here for PDF version.

A significant portion of this funding goes to convening Eco-Advisory Groups.

In 2024, we are embarking upon a project to explore how Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teachers might address their own and their students’ concerns about climate change and biodiversity loss within the MBSR curriculum. Please contact us for more information at:

Historical Funding

Historically, we funded organizations that offer secular mindfulness and Buddhist meditation practices. We also funded organizations whose work furthers the science exploring mindfulness and meditation practices and we use that evidence to guide our granting.

We have also convened a group of Mindful Funders.
